Privacy Policy

Flint Digital collects nothing through this website. This policy describes the small amount of personal information that is handled anyway — server logs and emails — and the rights you have in relation to it.

1. Who is responsible for your personal information

InUmbra s.r.o. is a company registered in the Czech Republic. This website is written for readers in Australia, and this policy is written to meet the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles, which the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner sets out at oaic.gov.au. Section 11 covers the position under European law.

2. What is collected

Three categories exist, and there is no fourth.

• Nothing through the website itself. There is no form, no newsletter, no account, no comment section, no quiz and no chat widget anywhere on this site. There is no analytics service, no advertising tag and no conversion pixel. The site sets no cookies of its own and permits no third party to set one through it, uses no localStorage or sessionStorage, and loads no fonts, scripts or images from any external host. The cookie policy describes this in more detail.
• Ordinary server logs, kept by the hosting provider. Like any web server, the machine serving this site records each request: the IP address it came from, the user agent string sent by the browser, the URL requested, the response code, and the date and time. These records are generated automatically and are not linked to any other information.
• Whatever you choose to put in an email. If you write to info@flintdigital.online, the publisher receives your email address, your message, and anything you attach to it.

Nothing on this site is designed to identify you, and the publisher does not attempt to. There is no profiling and no automated decision-making.

3. Why each category is handled, and on what basis

Server logs are kept to keep the site available and secure: to diagnose errors, to identify abusive traffic such as automated scanning, and to understand load. The basis is the publisher’s legitimate interest in operating a secure website, and the purpose is limited to that. Logs are not used for marketing, advertising, profiling or audience measurement.

Emails are handled for the single purpose of reading and answering your message. The basis is the legitimate interest of both parties in being able to correspond. Email addresses are never added to a mailing list, never used for marketing, and never sold, rented or shared with any vendor, including the vendor whose product is linked from this site.

4. How long each category is kept

• Server logs: retained for 30 days, then deleted or overwritten in the ordinary course of the hosting provider’s log rotation. Where a specific security incident is under investigation, the relevant entries may be kept until that investigation concludes and for no more than 12 months in total.
• Emails: retained for up to 24 months from the last message in the exchange, then deleted. If you ask for your correspondence to be deleted sooner, it is deleted, unless it is needed to deal with a legal claim.

5. Who else sees it, and cross-border disclosure

The only third parties involved are the hosting provider that operates the server this site is served from, and the email provider that carries messages sent to the address above. Both act on the publisher’s instructions and process the information described above only to deliver those services. No other third party receives anything, because there is nothing else to receive: no analytics company, no advertising network, no social platform, no content delivery network and no font service is contacted by any page on this site.

The affiliate link on this site is an ordinary hyperlink. Nothing about you is sent to the vendor by this site. If you choose to follow that link, your browser makes a request to the vendor in the normal way, and what happens after that is governed by the vendor’s own privacy policy rather than this one.

Cross-border disclosure (Australian Privacy Principle 8). The publisher is established in the Czech Republic and its service providers operate servers outside Australia, including within the European Union. Handling of your personal information therefore involves disclosure to recipients located overseas. The publisher takes reasonable steps to ensure those recipients handle personal information in a manner consistent with the Australian Privacy Principles, including by using providers subject to the European Union’s data protection regime.

6. How it is protected

The site is served over HTTPS, so traffic between your browser and the server is encrypted. Access to server logs and to the email account is limited to the people at InUmbra s.r.o. who need it, and is protected by individual credentials and multi-factor authentication. Because the site collects nothing, there is no database of readers, no customer record and no payment information held anywhere in connection with it — which is the most effective protection available.

7. Your rights

Under the Australian Privacy Principles you may ask for access to the personal information held about you, and ask for it to be corrected if it is inaccurate, out of date, incomplete or misleading. Requests go to info@flintdigital.online and are answered within 30 days. In practice, for most readers the honest answer is that nothing identifiable is held at all, because the only record of a visit is a log entry that is deleted within 30 days.

If you are not satisfied with the response, you may complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner, the Australian privacy regulator, at oaic.gov.au. The OAIC asks that you raise the matter with the organisation first, which is why the address above is the right first step.

8. Data breaches

If a data breach occurs that is likely to result in serious harm to an individual whose personal information is involved, the publisher will notify the affected individuals and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner as required by the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme, which the OAIC administers.

9. Children

This site is written for adults dealing with software on household devices. It is not directed at people under 16, does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, and therefore holds none relating to a child.

10. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the revised version is published on this page and the effective date at the top is updated. Where a change is material — for example if the site ever began to collect information, use cookies or load a third-party service — the change will be described on this page, and the corresponding mechanism, such as a consent request, will be in place before any such collection begins.

11. If you are in the European Union or the United Kingdom

InUmbra s.r.o. is established in the Czech Republic, so the General Data Protection Regulation applies to its processing. The legal basis relied on for both categories described above is legitimate interests under Article 6(1)(f): keeping the website secure and available, and responding to correspondence. Consent is not relied on, because the site sets no cookies and runs no tracking, so there is nothing to consent to.

Where the GDPR or the UK GDPR applies to you, you have the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability, and objection to processing based on legitimate interests. To exercise any of them, write to info@flintdigital.online. You also have the right to complain to a supervisory authority — in the Czech Republic, the Office for Personal Data Protection (Úřad pro ochranu osobních údajů), and otherwise the authority in your country of residence.
